The first major project of the Food/Agriculture Action Group is under way and it needs your help. In place of our previous volunteer events at the Regional Food Bank, this year we will be giving our gardening time to getting the Community Garden at the Village Library planted and running successfully.
BIG FUN WORK DAY is on Saturday, April 29th starting at 8:00 am and working until 2:00 pm or later. On this day we will be building group and individual raised beds, preparing the ground for planting, sprucing things up to look presentable, and planting the gardens. Sound like a lot of work? No way! With lots of people to help all of this work will be a breeze. Please come and lend a hand either by stopping by with water or snacks for the volunteers or by coming in your gardening clothes to get your hands dirty. We expect this event to be fun, outdoorsy, educational (unless youre already a stellar gardening expert), and a great sustainable service to the community. If you can attend please email sunnylaurarenee at yahoo.com and let me know when you think you might be there so the projects will be prepared for the appropriate amount of volunteers. Please feel free to make arrangements to stop by for just a few hours as your schedule permits. All help is appreciated!
The Village Library is located at 10307 N. Pennsylvania. (Between Britton and Hefner on the west side of the road.) The garden is on the south side of the library. You should see a crowd out there working.
If you cant make the BIG FUN WORK EVENT, we will also be having a smaller work event on Sunday, April 23rd from 1:00 pm 2:30 pm where we will be planting edible landscaping in some available beds at the front of the library.
The Village Library community garden has gone from a great idea to a full fledged project nearly overnight. We have received permission for the garden from the Village Library and the City of the Village as well as generous funding from several sources. All citizens of the Village are encouraged to join in the project and have an influence in its creation. We are doing this in cooperation with generous support and guidance from the Regional Foodbank of Oklahoma.
Please let me know if you will come volunteer or if you have any questions about the current or future status of the Village Community Garden project.
Thanks and well see you there!
