EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AT THE EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD
AT MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. MIDDLE SCHOOL 

Assistant Garden Teacher


The Edible Schoolyard, a program of the Chez Panisse Foundation, seeks
an individual who has experience working with middle school aged youth;
who is able to establish rapport with a diverse student population of
nine hundred; and who is comfortable working within the cultural,
economic, and ethnic diversity of our community.

Teaching 
*	Assist Garden Manager in leadership of daily garden classes 
*	Mentor individual students in and out of class, model good
behavior and respect, and encourage students' interests and talent 
*	Collaborate with classroom teachers in relating garden lessons
to classroom curriculum 
Gardening 
*	Assist in training and supervision of Americorps members and
community volunteers 
*	Coordinate daily harvests with kitchen classroom 
*	Monitor seasonal plantings, compost management and chicken
husbandry 
*	Maintain and repair garden structures and tools 
Qualifications 
*	Teaching experience and/or credential a plus. 
*	Minimum one-year's experience working with youth. 
*	Working knowledge of organic gardening. 
*	Able to work outdoors all day, in a physically demanding
environment. 
*	Spanish bilingual a plus.

*	$34,000 - $38,000, DOE 
*	Benefits package after 90-day probationary period
