Thanks again to Susie and Mark for hosting Green Drinks last night in their lovely home! As always, it was great to meet new people there and learn of their interests.

For the second time, we moved Green Drinks up to 5:30 p.m. and followed with meetings of our two action groups, smart growth and food/agriculture, at 7:15 p.m. Laura has already sent a review of the meeting of the food/ag committee, and I've included an update on the smart growth committee below. I'd like to add that these committees are open to all of our members and friends, and we have new people join frequently. If you're interested, drop us a line or join us at the next Green Drinks.

ACTION GROUP MEETING: SMART GROWTH AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT
JUNE 20, 2006

REVIEW PREVIOUS MEETING
We reviewed the progress made at the previous meeting toward identifying the most pressing needs in Oklahoma City. The decision was that education/awareness is the most important thing Sustainable OKC can contribute to making our built environment more sustainable. Education and awareness activities should focus on three target audiences:
     1. Public awareness and marketing toward CONSUMERS
     2. Public sector outreach toward GOVERNMENT
     3. Private sector outreach toward INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS

SMART GROWTH SERIES
The second event in Sustainable OKC's Smart Growth Series will take place Tuesday, August 8. The format will be a panel discussion with a focus on public transportation. Francis Kubier and Hans Butzer have worked together to generate a list of panelists and schedule the event. They have also coordinated some design work for promotion of the event.

Remaining tasks include the following. I've also indicated who has volunteered for each and where we still need help.

   * Speaker communication: collect biographies, make sure speakers have correct
      information about event time/location/parking/etc.
      -- Nancy Cain said she would help when she had more information.

   * Publicity:
     a. Write press release; follow up with media
         -- NEED VOLUNTEERS
     b. Hang posters at bookstores, cafes, bus stops, etc.
         -- Vicki Van Stavern, Jan Rose, Linda Temple, Valerie Bradshaw

   * Location set-up: chairs, A/V, recording, refreshments
     -- Vicki Van Stavern, Valerie Bradshaw, Jan Rose, Nancy Cain

   * Discussion questions: formulate questions for moderator
    -- Jennifer Gooden, Francis Kubier, VOLUNTEERS WELCOME

PROJECT
After discussion of several ideas, the group reached a consensus to create a green building resource guide specific to central Oklahoma. We will identify green products, where they can be purchased, and briefly compare them to conventional products (price, options, etc.). This information will be published in a directory that will be useful to people in the industry and the general public for both new construction and renovations.

* Jan Rose is leading this project and will send our work plan to the committee. If you would like to join this project, please let me know and I'll make sure Jan gets your contact information.

In the future, this group is interested in organizing a series of educational events targeted toward industry professionals (homebuilders, general contractors, landscape designers, nonprofit affordable housing developers, etc.).
