[OKCannouncements] FW: [OKC] Great Movie Night!

At the meeting, I was asked about possible policy issues that we should support in light of peak oil, and at the time I was mostly focusing on individual responses and didn't have much to say about that. However, since then I have thought about that a bit and have the following policy suggestions:

+ Support more than adequate funding for mass transit.
+ Generally, we should oppose funding for new highway construction.
+ Support more funding for low income insulation/weatherization programs.
+ Oppose subsidies for big agriculture (via some kind of a mechanism like a limit on the total payments that can be received by a farm operation, or on the total number of acres that a subsidy can be paid on).
+ Support funding of alternative energy research and implementation.
+ Oppose wars for resources.

Those are my early thoughts on this.

Thank you to all those who attended the first ever Sustainable OKC Movie Night event! We successfully partnered with Sierra Club to hold this event at the Gold Dome and we filled the room with those interested in learning more about the impending oil crisis and possible positive and negative outcomes.

A big thanks to Robert Waldrop for facilitating a great post-movie discussion and offering a vision of what the future might look like and how we can all take steps to be positive and proactive leaders of change today.

Keep your eyes open for more info on our upcoming Sustainable OKC events. Coming soon will be a presention on future possibilities for OKC by Hans Butzer and another casual green drinks/round table planning event.

Thanks again to all those who made our first ever Movie Night a great success!
