Here's a quick update on the exciting progress of the Village Library Community Garden:

A small group met last Saturday morning bright and early to get some work done on the garden.

Thanks to lots of work during the week (mostly by Bruce from the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma Urban Harvest program) the sod was already cut for both the butterfly garden and the community garden. The butterfly garden is in the shape of a butterfly, very cute! There is also a load of wood chips ready for disbursement to make pathways.

The group was able to for work about two and a half hours on Saturday before the thunder and lighting became a concern. The community garden plots are now measured and laid out, some remaining sod was dug up, the front beds were prepped for planting, and some edging was put in place.

Additionally, Denise (community member of the Village) was able to secure several donations of dirt and mulch and some food and drink items. We will be able to utilize these donations at later points.

Bruce is setting up another work day for this Saturday afternoon, May 6th, starting at 1:30 pm (weather pending) and possibly for this Sunday afternoon (again weather pending). Please call Bruce 623-0067 to check in about exact work times and weather conditions.

After this weekend, the status of the garden and the current financial situation will be evaluated and further plans will be made.

Feel free to call or email me if you have questions.

  Thanks!

  Laura
