Come explore the opportunities in Oklahoma Brownfields redevelopment!
The Oklahoma Brownfields Conference 2006 is reaching out to property
owners, public sector, and private sector entities with a stake in
redevelopment in our state. There are many important regulatory
requirements that must be considered when developing a site with known
or suspected environmental issues. There are also many layers of
technical and financial resources available to assist eligible entities
during redevelopment projects. Come learn how you can be a part of the
growing Brownfields redevelopment initiative in Oklahoma!
WHAT IS A BROWNFIELD?
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a Brownfield as: "real
property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be
complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous
substance, pollutant, or contaminant." Brownfields can be abandoned gas
stations, dry cleaners, salvage yards, rail yards, former industrial
sites, buildings with indoor hazards such as asbestos or lead based
paint, mine scarred lands, or sites contaminated with controlled
substances. The definition of a Brownfield has been greatly broadened in
recent years, and rules for eligibility and use of funding have also
become more flexible.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Anyone involved in property redevelopment will gain useful information
about the laws and resources applicable to contaminated property
transactions and Brownfield redevelopment. The following entities will
benefit greatly from attendance:
* Developers
* Bankers
* Commercial Realtors
* Corporate Landowners
* Community Planners
* Local and State Government Employees
* Environmental Engineers and Consultants
* Non-profit groups interested in redevelopment
* Tribes
* Academia
* Attorneys
