Myrna Fletcher is hosting a Building with Strawbales Conference/Workshop
at her new straw bale home in Norman, June 20th through the 22nd. You
may have seen her house on one of the numerous news stories in
magazines, newspapers and on TV in recent years.

We are have Jo Wilhelm from Johnson City, Texas to facilitate the
conference. Jo has built many straw bale homes in Texas and elsewhere.
You can visit her web site at www.homeplace.com.

The conference will be a great opportunity to meet very nice people who
have straw bale homes or are interested in building with bales. Many of
us are members of the OkieBaleHeads Yahoogroups list I started nearly 10
years ago. So far, people who are registered to attend are coming from
as far away as Kansas and Texas. There will be an opportunity to do some
'mud slingin' while we apply earthen plaster to the inside bale walls of
Myrna's house. The outside walls have been plastered.

Our first ever SB seminar and Mud slinging event, hosted by our own
Auntie M (Myrna Fletcher) and lecture series provided by our own JoMama,
(Jo Wilhelm) will begin very soon. If you've been sitting on the fence,
now would be the time to get off of it, and sign up! At current, we have
approx. 25 persons' attending, and there is still room for more. Should
you decide to do so? Send an email directly to Jo Wilhelm at:
home_place at yahoo.com. Like wise, send an email to Myrna at:
myrna.fletcher at yahoo.com.

And, mail her your $20.00 per person donation/attendance fee, a.s.a.p.

Jo's Agenda

On Friday we will be covering the areas where most mistakes are made
before land is even purchased-- what makes a piece of land good for you,
where do buildings belong on the land (siting), how to manifest your
dream into a house.

On Saturday morning we will work on Myrna's stucco until after lunch.
There will be several work crews, each one with a "straw boss". Each
crew will take regular breaks and EVERYONE on the crew will take that
break together. I have had someone collapse on a work site, and I am not
anxious to repeat that experience.

After lunch, we will discuss the actual straw bale construction. The
three things each building needs are good boots (foundation/footer) a
good coat (wall system) and waterproof hat (roof). We will have three
discussion sessions, lunch till mid afternoon, midafternoon until
supper, and then after supper.

Sunday morning we will have another work session, maybe not as long. If
we have time, we will have one more discussion session on interior
finishing.

Everyone should bring their own tools if they have them. Long sleeved
shirts, long pants and real shoes (not sandals), sun screen. Your own
water container would be nice.

If you like to bake, small (2") cookies with raisins and nuts are good
nutrition, watermelons iced down are great. Anything we can bring to
share is a help.

Stucco tools, hawks, trowels, etc as well- but do MARK your tools. After
a while they all look alike.

If you have questions, comments or suggestions send me a note-- either
on or off list.

Jo Wilhelm
