Sustainable OKC members, friends, colleagues -
Yesterday on behalf of Sustainable OKC and the Transition Town OKC project,
I attended an OKC City Council meeting and afterwards a meeting of the City
of OKC's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Advisory Group. The City Council
was briefed on the grant and approved it, then at the meeting we discussed
the next steps.
A brief overview: The City of OKC is submitting a $5.4 million grant request
to the U.S. Department of Energy with 12 activities designed to begin
implementing energy efficiency and conservation strategies for OKC. The 12
activities meet the stringent grant criteria and guidelines provided by the
DOE and were identified via a collaborative series of meetings with
brainstorming and input from a range of organizations, non-profits and
businesses. Sustainable OKC and/or the Transition Town OKC project had
representatives at each of the meetings. The DOE has 120 days to review and
approve (we hope) or reject the grant request.
The attached PDF provides an overview of the activities. Over the next
three-four months the City will be identifying implementation partners for
each of the activities in the strategy - and SOKC and the Transition Town
OKC project will continue to be involved in an advisory capacity, so if you
have any thoughts, ideas, suggestions for implementation partners, please
feel free to review the PDF and pass your ideas along and we will in turn
share them with the City.
Send ideas to: president at sustainableokc.org.
Thank you!
