Happy New Year OSN!

Please forward this to your chapters and the OSN listserve.

One of my New Year commitments to OSN is greater transparency. Everyone
should know that all of our board meetings and agendas are available by
request at anytime - but I want to do better. Soon, I will have all of
2008's agendas and minutes on our website and will send out an email when
that is up. A second commitment is to put together a budget for this coming
year and at the end of this year we will strive to publish our first ever
Annual Report. Additionally, I will announce all our meetings to the
listserve. If there is something you want the board to discuss off the
listserve, send me an email. I would love to invite everyone to all
meetings, but you can imagine that would be tough to plan for several times
a year.

We're looking at how to do an Annual Meeting (not a conference) so that
everyone can participate in person. I welcome your suggestions for how to
make OSN more accessible to you and ways we can improve our service to
Oklahoma. With that - on with the New Year and my thank you to those who
have worked with diligence and integrity to ensure Oklahoma's sustainability
and our quality of life:

We have an exciting year ahead of us and have worked very hard to this point
in developing valuable relationships with our partners and constituencies.
In 2008 every chapter made awesome strides in their communities and board
members forged new state-wide relationships. Statewide, we are at the table
for energy and transportation planning. Locally, we are called upon for
expertise in all areas and are recognized as "the sustainability group" in
our communities. We reside on influential boards and councils, are asked to
speak at events, and have garnered the respect of folks who admire our
approach despite any differences with our opinions and ideals. Take a pause
with that - our resolve and networking has made a difference.

In terms of our development, we have received direct financial contributions
from most of our board members for the first time ever and I thank you for
your commitment. Our conference attendees and sponsors have been most of
OSN's base, yet as we mature the Directors' roles will be increasingly
important for development and fund raising. Your connections and fundraising
outreach will make all the difference in our ability to maintain momentum,
secure our dream team for staff and participate more fully in the regional
arena for sustainability. Take a pause with that - your contributions will
make a difference.

The 2009 OSN Conference: A New Declaration of Independence needs to be an
absolute success. As part of the 2009 Conference, we have launched our new
logo! We're making some small tweaks on the website to ensure it displays
as beautifully there as in the conference materials. You have all received
the materials for the conference - great job Jeff Tate & Team in Edmond.
Jason Claborn and I are meeting this Friday to discuss next steps for
fundraising and we may enlist some of you to assist. We need to get going
with lots of energy on this.

The time has flown and we need to have our first Board meeting for the year.
One of the best features of the agenda is the nomination for Treasurer.
Brian Figgins has stepped up to the task and I hope to welcome him in to
make our board fully manned for the first time in a couple years.

Board members, please mark your calendars for Jan 24 in OKC or Stillwater
12-4. We will start our meeting with lunch and hopefully adjourn before 4.
I am hoping the later start time is helpful for those who will be traveling.
Agenda & location coming soon. If you have anything in particular you want
to discuss, send it along!
