Thought I would share something new and hopefully helpful I found out about today.  
 
http://www.yellowpagesgoesgreen.org/.  This organization will allow you to sign up to stop receiving phone books (yellow pages, white pages, or both).  Phone book companies do give the option to recycle old phone books, but it seems better to not print them in the first place if we don't need them.
