The Role of Agriculture and Forestry in a Reduced Carbon Economy
25x'25 Webinar: Climate Change Legislative Update and Outlook
Climate change legislation is currently the focus of intense discussion
and debate in Washington. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 2454,
the American Clean Energy and Security Act, on June 25th and several
Senate committees including the Environment and Public Works and
Agriculture committees are holding hearings this month.
While agriculture and forestry's role in reducing and sequestering
greenhouse gas emissions is widely recognized, disagreement exists over
the costs and benefits these sectors will incur from climate change
policy. Although energy related input costs will likely increase as a
result of putting a price on greenhouse gas emission, policies designed
to reduce carbon emissions could raise net returns through higher prices
for commodities, new bioenergy markets and revenue from the high-quality
and low-cost offsets that the agriculture and forestry sectors can
provide through a properly designed and implemented cap and trade
program.
This webinar session will feature an overview of the American Clean
Energy and Security Act, the outlook for climate legislation in the
Senate and an examination of what we know and don't know about costs and
benefits of pending legislation. Please join us for this informative
session!
