July 16 APT Lunch Meeting
The Oklahoma Alliance for Public Transportation, or APT, has had many
well-attended 2009 meetings and invites you to get more involved in public
transportation's future here! About 45 people came in June, including TV,
radio, and newspaper media.
Spread the word: these APT meetings are open to all and lunch costs are
affordable-$8.00 but you must order in advance. The location is along or
near a few bus routes and brown bagging is ok.
Place:
1000 N. Broadway, the new handsome offices of the Oklahoma City Community
Foundation. BUT: park in their unmarked lots just east of the "Harvey
Supplies" building on Tenth Street, or park along Broadway.
Three Recent APT Successes
1 >>>>About 50 came to the June APT lunch meeting at Red Cross to hear the
report of MAPS3 comments gathered at past APT "Listening" sessions. The
media coverage was excellent and led to a June 20 editorial in the Daily
Oklahoman that questioned today's level of voter support for a dedicated tax
for transit operations. APT has long urged dedicated funding (a new modest
tax), some call it perpetual transit funding, and APT is well aware of the
surveys that show growing citizen support for transit. The Oklahoman was
not critical of the APT, and it is also great to know that an APT stance is
worthy enough to have rated editorial attention!
2 >>>The Oklahoma City's City Council did approve a last minute funding
increase that enables METRO Transit to make two bus routes more frequent
(Routes 8 and 40). Individuals with the APT asked for Council support and
apparently helped put the measure over the top! More importantly, the
Council is to be saluted!!!
3 >>>As of June 2, the APT is now a 501C3 organization recognized by the
IRS!
