by Shauna Lawyer Struby

by Tricia Dameron

Data from the  <http://www.agcensus.usda.gov/Publications/2007/index.asp>
2007 Census of Agriculture was released in early February. The Census of
Agriculture is conducted every five years; this is the third time it was
conducted by the USDA. Prior to 1997 it was conducted by the Census Bureau.
It's full of fascinating information about agriculture in our state and
country. ::: more

by Chelsey Simpson

When I say I was born a conservationist, I'm not bragging. Conserving things
-- all kinds of things -- has been a lifelong obsession of mine, and not
always a healthy one. ::: more

Terra Preta

by Ron Ferrell

Just how clever were those South American Indians? They were one of the
first races on the planet to include the number zero in their mathematical
and monetary system, but now their population cannot be found in any
resemblance to what the anthropologists say once flourished. ::: more

By Shauna Lawyer Struby

I love Buzz Lightyear. His optimism in the face of reality (believing he can
fly on pop-up wings), makes this diminutive Toy Story hero full of geeky
bravura and sincerity incredibly endearing. But it is his mouse-sized roar
of, "To infinity and beyond!" that makes him my way cool, sustainable hero.

itten-word.html> A love letter to the written word

By Lindsay Vidrine

In this electronic information age of text messages and *ehem* blogs, it
seems like the written word is dying, or at least getting reduced to
short-hand-friendly acronyms. I see this slow progression in ways large and
small every day. ::: more

By Peak Oil Hausfrau

Featured here is the first post of the
<http://envisionokc2020.blogspot.com/> Envision 2020 blog, which imagines
the events in Oklahoma City as we transition from the present, a time of
abundant and cheap energy, to the future, a time of declining and expensive
energy... ::: more

.html> Soil are us, us are soil

By Robert Waldrop

Soil is fundamental to agriculture and gardening and thus is fundamental to
human life. Fertile topsoil is a precious resource, and there is less and
less of it all the time. Half of Oklahoma's top soil is now somewhere at the
bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. ::: more

Green Valentines

By Robbie White

I have been pondering the last-minute mindset that marketers and retailers
have cultivated in our culture. For example, we all know for 365 days prior
to February 14 that we will be expected to participate in some form of
Valentine's Day celebration. ::: more
