Hello Sustainable OKC members, friends and colleagues -

Sustainable OKC's fiscal year is coming to an end and with it the terms of
some of our board members. So, we wanted to let you know are currently
accepting nominations for the Sustainable OKC board for the fiscal year
beginning July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010. (Board member terms are typically
three years in length).

Over the past year as an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit, Sustainable OKC
has accomplished the following:

. Hosted three "conversations" about energy with community
stakeholders and members.

. Hosted Green Drinks on a quarterly basis in 2008; and every other
month in 2009.

. Founded Fresh Greens <http://freshgreens.typepad.com/> , a
collaborative blog featuring a rotating slate of articles penned by local
writers on a variety of sustainable topics. New articles typically post
twice a week.

. Founded an online Sustainable
<http://www.sustainableokc.org/calendar/month.php> Community Calendar,
which offers timely and regularly updated information on a broad range of
sustainable happenings, events, news, projects, and meetings hosted by a
variety of organizations in central Oklahoma and throughout the state.

. Founded Transition Town OKC <http://goinglocalokc.com/> , (TTOKC)
a community approach to the energy challenge with the mission of helping
Oklahoma City transition from oil dependency to local sustainability. TTOKC
has already appeared at several events and made presentations.

. Organized and hosted Rethink:Recycle:Redesign, an art event and
fundraiser in collaboration with Individual Artists of Oklahoma.

. Worked on a food security assessment for the Frontier Country
(central Oklahoma) region.

. Served as a contact and resource for media with regard to a number
of sustainable issues and stories.

. Worked cooperatively and collaboratively with Oklahoma
Sustainability Network via a dedicated liaison.

. Completed our 501(c)3 application and are now a stand-alone
non-profit.

. Updated our brochure and Web site.

I'm probably leaving several projects out, so other board members feel free
to chime in. And of course there's a great deal more yet to be done!! We
receive a number of requests each week for speakers, information and
resources, and our board is a vital part of all of our projects. The work we
do wouldn't happen without all of us pulling together.

What does being on Sustainable OKC's board involve?

. Understanding the Sustainable OKC Mission

SOKC is a grassroots organization working at the crossroads of business,
environment, and social justice in Oklahoma City.

SOKC promotes community sustainability by facilitating grassroots action,
fostering awareness of sustainability,

and serving as an informational and networking resource in the Oklahoma City
area.

. Having an awareness and understanding of SOKC projects. More here

. Attending and participating in monthly board meetings and/or board
retreat

. Leading or participating in the work of a committee and / or
project

. Actively supporting activities and special events through
attendance or preparation

. Networking and working with other volunteers and community members

. Making a personal financial donation to Sustainable OKC in an
amount meaningful to the board member

If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the Sustainable OKC
board, please let us know. Self-nominations totally copasetic! And we really
want to hear from our Sustainable OKC members!

Interested parties should submit a brief bio (nothing fancy necessary), and
a bit of info on why they're interesting in being a Sustainable OKC board
member. Although not necessary, info on previous board and/or volunteer
experience, non-profit affiliations is useful. Knowing about work
experience, educational background, interests and so on also helps. The more
we know the better. This will help our board as we evaluate candidates and
if elected to the board, will help us match a person's interests to project
and passion.

Deadline for nominations: Friday, May 29, 2009.

Thank you for considering this and we look forward to seeing many
nominations in our inbox! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Cheers -
