[OKC] interest in permaculture...

Greetings all......
I am a Consulting Forester with a 30+year background of professional
training and natural resources management career experience. I offer site
examination, consulting, and management planning expertise regarding:
planting for energy & water conservation; water quality best management
practices (BMPs) and soil erosion control; native tree preservation on
development sites; species selection for site-specific requirements and
individual needs; wildlife habitat improvements; tree care BMPs
(Arboriculture) and insect & disease control; wildfire prevention in the
"urban/rural" interface...and other sustainable practices dealing with the
Green Infrastructure of communities, neighborhoods, and individual private
properties.
I would like to be included in any "network" being developed with regard to
permaculture and community green-space. It would be good to gather at some
point, as this network grows, for a get-acquainted session and to find out
how far this resource list could progress.
Thank you.

Oh...something to keep in mind whenever dealing with any type of "rain
harvesting" or "gray water" storage for ongoing use will be the mosquito
breeding factor. Several species utilize water holding containers of
varying sizes as effective breeding sites. These species are the ones known
to spread the West Nile virus, as well as several equine and human strains
of encephalitis. If any lids or caps do not fit tightly or, as often can be
the case, are allowed to be blown off or to get knocked off after the kids
or big dogs get to playing around in the area or whatever, and then you go
off on vacation for a couple of weeks -- you will inadvertently create a
serious situation that will end up affecting your whole neighborhood!

Matthew,
I am interested! I'm a backyard gardener. My garden isn't that big, but
I have grown many different vegetables and herbs. I'm trying potatoes in
a small tower this year.
I'd like to know more about your herb spiral.
I want some rain barrels, but don't have any yet. I do have a worm bin
and use worm castings for my garden, and I have compost bins. I also
make use of a makeshift hoop house when appropriate.
Gardening involves lots of experimentation, and I'd love to collaborate
on some experiments with others!
I'm part of a one-car family, so I'm transportation-challenged. So, i
might not be able to make meetings, but it would be great to know others
in this area who are facing the challenges of this same climate.
Some things I'm curious about are strawberries and sweet potatoes --
never grown either.
Count me in!
