ReEnergize OK Student Mentorship Program
What: A commitment from you as an established sustainability, clean energy,
or environmental advocate to contact a student that attended the ReEnergize
Oklahoma Student Summit. A student will be assigned to you based on
geographic location, shared interests and other factors. What you decide to
share with your assigned student is up to you, but could include:
- encouraging your student to attend a meeting of your organization to share
what they learned at the summit, get involved, etc
- asking the student if their campus group would like to be coalition
partners in a project or campaign your organization is running
- asking the student if a representative can come speak with their group to
share ideas, build a coalition, etc
- share information that the student group can use to make a positive impact
in your community i.e. info on who the decision-makers are, how to influence
the mayor/city council, etc
- give general encouragement and gratitude that your student is giving their
time and energy to improving the community, the state, and the world
When: You will be assigned a student the week after the summit. We'd ask
that you make initial contact with your student no longer than a week after
the summit.
Why: Young Oklahomans need to learn about how unique and powerful the energy
and environmental activism in our state has been, is, and will be in the
future. If I had my way, Aunt Carrie's War Against the Black Fox Nuclear
Power Plant would be required reading in every Oklahoma high school.
ReEnergize Oklahoma believes that we, as students & youth, have a lot to
learn from those that came before us. As an energy/environmental advocate
sometimes it feels were all working on islands. That's one of the reasons we
started having these summits, to bring together people that can share their
ideas and inspire one another. But we also want to hear from the generations
above us who can encourage us and provide us with wisdom we need to enact
the bold sustainable principles in government and business were discussing
at the summit.
How: You can contact your assigned student by phone or email.
