United Way

ACOG staff participated in the annual United Way of Central Oklahoma
Pacesetter fundraising campaign in August. This year's ACOG United Way drive
organizers were Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer, Transportation Program
Coordinator; John Harrington, Water Resources Director and Barbara Hurdman,
Department Secretary. <http://www.acogok.org/enews/images/unitedway.jpg>
Fundraising activities were varied, yet effective. The campaign actually
started a few months ago when Ken Brown, Projects Coordinator, decided to
lose weight for United Way. Staff pledged money per pound lost. Brown ended
up losing 20 pounds at his final weigh-in, which alone raised over $1,400.
In the last 14 months, Brown has lost over 45 pounds.

Process Underway

  <http://www.acogok.org/enews/images/firetrk2.jpg> The 2010 Rural Economic
Action Plan (REAP) grant process is currently underway, with communities in
the Central Oklahoma region with populations under 7,000 eligible to apply.
The maximum dollar amount for grants is $50,000, which can be used for a
variety of projects in the areas of community development and
transportation. REAP funding is important to the region because it allows
small communities to develop necessary infrastructure and transportation
projects that they otherwise may not have full resources to implement. The
program consistently receives more requests for project funding than there
is funding available.
