Subject: Sierra Club Friday Movie Night, "Food Fight"

 

On Friday, Oct 23 at 7:30 at Backwoods (NW corner of NW 122nd St & N May),
the Sierra Club will screen the documentary "Food Fight".  The movie will be
preceded by a half hour of socializing featuring locally produced snacks,
cheese, fruit & wine.  Come early as seating is limited.


The movie enjoins us to join the fight to remake our broken industrial food
system in a very creative and entertaining way.  It follows the blooming of
the California local food, organic agriculture movement with roots in Alice
Water's Che' Panesse restaurant.  The movie examines the causes of our
present predicament in outmoded farm policies, our dependence on corn & soy
agribusiness, the cruel production of meat in CAFOs, the illusory and
secretive manner of food production and the destruction of the environment.
We can each make a difference toward change by the simple act of voting with
our forks, one meal at a time.
