Each of these three MAPS meetings will have the same content, but it is
often easier and greener to attend meetings near home or on the way
home. The northwest one is Tuesday, November 3 is at Warr Acres library
along a bus route. The APT coalition has adopted an interesting
resolution that goes well beyond MAPS.

Subject: [APTOklahomaGM] MAPS 3 and your APT

Greetings APT Membership,

Appended to this message are two documents of importance to the APT. You
are encouraged to read them and participate in the MAPS 3 Transit Forums
as you are able. Also, there is a resolution agreed to by a quorum of
the Board of the APT and signed by our Chair, Lauren White, showing
APT's support for MAPS 3 - especially the transit portion.

If you have any questions, comments, or responses to these documents,
please send them to joe.mecham at yahoo.com and they will be forwarded to
the appropriate person(s).

As your group moderator, I appreciate your patience as this group grows

APT MAPS Transit Forums in November

The Oklahoma Alliance for Public Transportation (APT) is holding three
no-cost one -hour community forums across the City to help people learn
more about MAPS transit projects and the other MAPS projects set for the
December 8 election. The APT has adopted the attached resolution
supporting MAPS 3, and is excited to help spread the word about
streetcar, a transit hub, sidewalks and trails across the city, and
more. The meetings are free of charge and will last about an hour.

Each APT public forum will feature a detailed slide presentation by a
spokesperson loaned by the Greater OKC Chamber and each meeting will
allow for question-and-answer, all within an hour. APT plans to jointly
co-sponsor a fourth MAPS forum in the Downtown in conjunction with other
pro-transit organizations. All locations and times are accessible by
public transportation. Here are the three:

Northwest-Tuesday, November 3-Warr Acres Public Library, near NW 63rd
and MacArthur, 6-7 p.m.

South-Tuesday, November 10-Crossroads Mall, Community Room on the Lower
Level near the former Macy's/Foleys, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Northeast/Central-Tuesday, November 24-Tinker Federal Credit Union,
1177 NE 23rd, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

You may later hear of these from other sources, but please help inform
others. Come and invite a friend, neighbor, or colleague!

Please respond to this email if you want to assist at the event.

RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR MAPS3 BY
THE ALLIANCE FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Alliance for Public Transportation (APT) was
incorporated as a nonprofit in 2005 and is Oklahoma's longest tenured
pro-transit and pro-pedestrian coalition, and was also approved as an
501 (c)(3) organization by the Internal Revenue Service in 2009, and

WHEREAS, the Alliance for Public Transportation has worked hard since
2004 to engage the mainstream public in the planning and provision of
improved capital and operating funding for public transportation in
transit's many forms and to engage them in support of pedestrian
improvements, trails, active living and healthy lifestyles for
Oklahomans young and old alike in all Oklahoma communities, all as
posted on its website for several years, and

WHEREAS, Alliance for Public Transportation has held several
well-attended community meetings to gain mainstream public input about
MAPS3 in Spring 2009 and also polled the public and informed elected and
community leaders of its findings, and

WHEREAS, the APT finds that the recently announced MAPS 3 transit and
pedestrian projects closely resemble those discussed by and advocated by
the APT in the spring and summer of 2009, and

WHEREAS, the APT is pleased with the MAPS 3 projects as capital
investments in transit and the region as the projects have been listed
in various published sources since mid September 2009 and especially how
these projects help implement the COTPA fixed guideway regional plan for
2030, such as support for a downtown streetcar, flexibility to help fund
the starter leg of commuter rail or bus rapid transit, funds for a
downtown transit intermodal hub, and support for the northeast Adventure
District and visitors to the area, as well as to the improved quality of
life for all Okiahomans, and

WHEREAS, the APT held a very successful educational forum prior to and
about the planned transit and sidewalk improvements in the 2007 General
Obligation (GO.) Bond election of Oklahoma City and has had a very
successful track record in public engagement, and

WHEREAS, the APT supports a permanent, dedicated perpetual funding
source for starting and operating public transportation suitable for
daily commutes and frequent usage by people from all walks of life.

NOW THEREFORE BE RESOLVED, that the Oklahoma Alliance for Public
Transportation supports MAPS3 and will plan to work in support of it as
allowed by law, and

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the APT is willing to again
sponsor educational meetings and other efforts in support of MAPS3 and
to also help the general public understand the great value and
affordability of dedicated perpetual operating transit funding for all,

Approved By Action of a Quorum of its Board this day, October 1, 2009.
