FUEL
Winner of Best Documentary Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival
Begins National Theatrical Release via Greenlight Theatrical
The World's First Algae-Fueled, 150 Mile Per Gallon Vehicle Kicks Off Cross
Country Tour to Launch FUEL
First of Its Kind Green Curriculum To Be Offered Free To All US Schools
The stirring, radical and multi-award winning documentary FUEL, a
comprehensive and powerful portrait of America's overwhelming addiction to
and reliance on oil, opens in theatres in New York, Washington DC, San
Francisco and Berkeley on September 18th from Greenlight Theatrical. This
initial rollout will expand soon after to other markets across the country.
Director Josh Tickell's FUEL offers a virtual tour guide through the drama
of fuel, the history, the politics, the mess that the world is in and the
fascinating alternatives for a way out. In the movie, he interviews
politicians, historians, professors and a sprinkling of activist
celebrities, all of whom have their own take on one of the most important
and pressing concerns of the modern era. Interviews with a wide range of
environmentalists, policy makers and educators, along with such "green"
celebrities as Woody Harrelson, Sheryl Crow and Larry Hagman offer serious
fuel for thought for empowering people with knowledge and inspiring social
change.
As both a first time director and narrator of the film, Tickell's rousing
and reactionary FUEL is an amazing, in-depth, personal journey of oil use
and abuse in which he examines wide-ranging energy solutions other than oil,
the faltering US auto and petroleum industries, and the latest stirrings of
the American mindset toward alternative energy (versus the advanced European
commitment to ending its oil dependence altogether).
To celebrate the national theatrical release of FUEL, Tickell and film
producer Rebecca Harrell launched the world's first algae-fueled cross
country tour. The Veggie Van cross country tour kicked off in San Francisco
in early September and will culminate in New York City on the film's opening
day, September 18th.
"What better way to show that the energy solutions we have been waiting for
are here than driving the world's first algae fuel powered, 150 mile per
gallon, plug-in-electric hybrid vehicle, the Algaeus, across America to
celebrate the opening of a movie about a new green economy," said Tickell.
The documentary FUEL and the Algaeus Tour are presented by the Veggie Van
Organization. The Veggie Van Organization was established to facilitate the
transition from fossil fuel use toward a new green economy by educating
people about sustainable energy and providing them with appropriate pathways
for integrating sustainable energy into homes, schools, communities, cities,
states and ultimately nations.
The Veggie Van Organization is creating an educational curriculum that will
be free to classrooms across America this year. It is based on the seven
pieces of the new green barrel seen in FUEL. Each piece of the barrel
corresponds to a module of information that meets national education
standards. Currently there is no green curriculum for schools that meets
national education standards. The site will be the first of its kind. It
will expand beyond green information and it has the potential to
revolutionize education in America. It is called Curriculumhub.com.
www.Curriculumhub.com <http://www.curriculumhub.com/> is a hybrid site - a
cross between Facebook and Wikipedia. It will be a place to upload and
share content for any and all school subjects. It will be searchable by
keywords or by which standards it meets. Teachers can post one day or one
week lesson plans and include podcasts, videos, projects and homework
assignments. Students, teachers and parents to build their own profile
pages and connect. And teachers can use the site to post homework and
communicate with parents. It offers the first mechanism for educational
material to be dynamic while still meeting national educational standards.
Added to the curriculum will be pieces of the movie FUEL and eventually a
free 35 minute educational version of FUEL which has been re-edited to
remove all political content and approved for use in classrooms.
