Excellent annual event to clean up one of OKC's main drinking water supplies, Lake Overholser. The lake and surrounding areas also serve important conservation and recreation purposes for the OKC area.

Though many of you already know and have responded, I just wanted to share that a week from this Saturday (April 24th) is the 5th Annual Lake Overholser/Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge Clean-up! It begins at 8:30am and continues to 1pm. As people sign in, there will be free doughnuts from Brown's Bakery (bring your own coffee). Then, after the clean-up, we will have a free lunch with free BBQ/baked beans/cole slaw courtesy of Earl's Rib Palace, hamburger steaks courtesy of the Cimarron Steakhouse, and vegetarian subs (must be previously requested) from Jersey Mike's in the Westgate Shopping Center.

The first 100 attendees will receive a reusable tote bag with biodegradable dishwashing soap from Planet, Inc. (can be found at the Akins at 63rd and May) and additional goodies from Kaiser's Grateful Bean Café' (certificate for free dip of ice cream for everybody!), Sonic, Burger King, and Chick-fil-A.

There will be bottles of water for everybody courtesy of Pepsi, Oklahoma City Beautiful's Litter Blitz, The Great American Clean-up, and Jersey Mike's. OKC Kayaks is providing free canoes/kayaks to those who will be cleaning up Stinchcomb on the North Canadian River!

Supplies (some grabbers and heavy duty gloves), team leader t-shirts, tote bags, and additional lunch items are courtesy of grants from Chesapeake Energy and the Department of Environmental Quality's Green Team!

As if all these things weren't enough, we are going to be giving away lots of great prizes during lunch (must have volunteered all morning and be present at the lunch to win). As of today, there are about 70 prizes that will be given away!

If you haven't responded yet to let me know you will attend, please do so. Also, everybody needs to complete the first two pages of the liability waiver (must have parent sign if the child is less than 18 years). Also, wear sturdy shoes, and bring heavy work gloves though thinner gloves and trash bags will be provided.

I requested good weather so right now it looks like it will be partly sunny with a high of 70o! Couldn't be more perfect weather to get out and have fun cleaning up these beautiful areas. This is a total volunteer effort. Though many of us work at the Department of Environmental Quality, we are doing this on our own time as are you. As volunteers, it is important for us to take pride in both our city and in our environment. Hope to see you there!
