The May/June 2010 issue of Oklahoma Today magazine, the magazine of Oklahoma
since 1956, is Sustainability 2010: The Conservation Issue. You can order it
online -- http://www.oklahomatoday.com/ -- or pick it up on newsstands.
Full disclosure: I have a piece on sustainable architecture in the issue and
I served on the virtual sustainable panel Oklahoma Today put together to
highlight 46 Oklahoma businesses and initiatives with an eco-friendly focus.
Many sustainable folk -- farmers, ranchers, businesses, volunteers,
initiatives, organizations -- are covered in various ways - too many to
mention here.
The magazine undertook a whale of task delving into the sustainability
movement in Oklahoma in all of its various permutations throughout the state
and I think they did a superb job. We could argue and quibble all day long
about who or what should or should not have been covered, etc., or covered
from one angle or another, but to do so would miss the positive point of
this issue. For the state's magazine to tackle the topic of sustainability
and make it the focus of an entire issue says a great deal about
consciousness of this topic in the state as a whole and that's a good thing.
It means everyone working so hard on all the pieces of the sustainable
puzzle is making a difference.
So congrats to all the businesses, organizations and volunteers covered, and
to Oklahoma Today magazine for putting together such a fine issue.
