Subject: [ok-sus] FW: CPASA Action Alert: Protest Arbuckle Aggregates
mining application

Please take the opportunity to read this. It's really important if:

* you drink water from any of the cities, communities or rural
water districts that are served by the Arbuckle Simpson,

* you or your friends and family enjoy the recreational values
of Southern Oklahoma

* you find the intrinsic ecological values in the scenic
beauties of our natural resources and native habitats

*         the lists goes on.......

You don't have to live in the area to support their causes in asking for
a hearing on their mining application. This is VERY timely. The signed
forms have to be delivered to the Oklahoma Dept of Mines by Wednesday,
August 18th at the address listed below. All the protest form listed
below does is ask for a public hearing. You do not have to be present,
give witness, etc. J

Please read and please share this with others!

At its meeting tonight, August 12, the CPASA board voted unanimously to
protest the renewed application of Arbuckle Aggregates LLC to the
Oklahoma Department of Mines (ODM) for a permit for surface mining in
575 acres in northern Johnston County near Mill Creek, Oklahoma.

The proposed surface mine is above the Arbuckle Simpson Aquifer and
poses a threat to the aquifer, especially Mill Creek and the headwaters
of Pennington Creek. For these reasons, the CPASA board urges you to
protest this permit application.

Like me, you may have protested Arbuckle Aggregates' first application
submitted in June 2009. The company withdrew that application in May
2010, effectively voiding more than 200 protests which had been filed.
Then, the company immediately submitted a new application and it is the
new application which is being protested now. If you filed a protest to
the old application, it is null and void. To make your voice heard on
the new application, you will need to submit a new protest.

A copy of a protest form can be viewed here.

ggregates%2Fprotestform_08122010.pdf> Please print it for your use or
create your own and mail your completed protest to:

Oklahoma Department of Mines
2915 North Classen Blvd.
Suite 213
Oklahoma City, Ok 73106

The deadline for protest could be as early as August 18, so we hope you
will act quickly. If the deadline is extended, we will let you know by
email. If you have any questions, please email me at cpasa at cpasa.net.

Also, please forward this message to anybody you know who supports the
protection of the Arbuckle Simpson Aquifer. Thank you.
