Subject: [ok-sus] Oklahoma Deposit Beverage Container Recycling Act - Is
it worthy of support?
Hello everyone,
The Oklahoma Deposit Beverage Container Recycling Act has been
introduced in both the State House (HB 2916)
<http://www.ecapitol.net/ViewText.wcs?HB2916_INT> and Senate (SB 1896)
<http://www.ecapitol.net/ViewText.wcs?SB1896_INT> . I want to get a
good feel for the range of opinion on the OSN list serve. Is this
something that OSN as an organization should support? Why or why not.
I am very enthusiastic about this bill as it would help promote
recycling, support existing recycling programs, and bring recycling to
parts of the state where it is currently not feasible. I even had a
Letter to the Editor

435720?custom_click=headlines_widget> published in the Oklahoman in
support of it.
I think the timing is right for such a bill. Many state Republicans
support the measure as it will help retain jobs in the Tulsa area. We
talk about the energy savings of recyclable materials. In the case of
glass bottle production, recycled glass does not have to be heated as
much and causes less wear and tear on the equipment. Without a bottle
deposit law, Oklahoma is not competitive as a place to produce bottles.
Thanks,
