This is one of the signs of what we discussed with few friends over
years - destruction of social contract. Localities - here in the US and
in UK are printing their own money. We had coupons back in USSR that
could only be received by locals and used at local shops. Later, it
turned into local currencies. It seems that 20 years after Soviet Union,
US is moving almost in entirely same direction.

I know somebody posted a link to a gentleman named Orlov, who speaks
around the US on this subject. With some observations, understanding of
history, geo-political, psychological and sociological trends - and of
course, first hand experience in the fall of a super power - you could
see strong potential for problems in the US as early as in early 1990's.
It became more apparent in early 2000's.

Expansive (vs intensive) growth model is doomed to collapse. In reality,
green economy (i.e. more efficient, intensive economy) is the only hope
for the US to come out of this mess in a descent shape. USSR wanted to
convert to a more efficient and intensive economy - it just was not
called green then. We failed back then, and you know what happened. 

I will be more than glad to share my thoughts on this to any group. This
is not doom-and-gloom conspiracy theory stuff. This is real analysis of
facts and trends, based on economic, political, cultural and historical
data.
