Subject: OU Lean Institute Lean and Green Program

 

To help you further your organization's green initiatives, the OU Lean
Institute is initiating a new Lean and Green training program that will be
holding its first session in Spring 2010.  This program adapts the tools of
Lean Manufacturing (particularly value stream mapping) for environmental
conservation.  It presents a set of basic tools that can be applied to the
issues in any organization, from government agency to manufacturing:
energy/water conservation, garbage reduction, the elimination of
transportation waste, reduction in emissions, etc..  And, it does this in
ways that are actually profitable!  This is a three-day training program,
with training spread out over 4-6 weeks as participants complete a
real-world project in their organization.

 

For those of you unfamiliar with Lean Manufacturing, Lean approaches
organizational processes from the perspective of eliminating "waste", with
waste being anything more than the minimum time, materials, or other
resources necessary to perform the task at hand.  This perspective on waste
makes it a tool that is ideal for conservation efforts.

 

If you are interested in being kept informed as this program moves forward,
or would be interested in setting up a Lean and Green training session
specifically for your organization, please contact the Lean Institute at the
information below.  Please note that pricing for the course is not yet
available as we are still working out the details of a training grant, but
we hope to offer this course at very low cost.
