* December 14 Saving money. Doing more with less. Supporting local
businesses. Promoting walkable neighborhoods. Oklahoma City is embarking on
a series of efforts to reinvigorate the community, reduce city expenditures,
and evaluate practices based on long term costs and benefits. These efforts
are known as Capital Green. Citizen input is an important part of
determining priorities and goals for Capital Green, so a series of public
Open Houses have been planned to gather your comments and ideas. Please plan
to attend. 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM, South OKC Chamber of Commerce, 701 W I 240
Service Road or 7:00 -8:00 PM, Francis Tuttle Technology Center, 12777 North
Rockwell Drive For more information please contact
Capital.Green at chguernsey.com (note: this is not a Sierra Club event, but
the information is being provided as a service to our members)
* December 21 - Let's spend the evening of Dec 21st (Tuesday) getting
to know each other better as we share our memories, dreams, and hopes. As
we relax from the holiday rush, we will connect with all mankind as we watch
the December full moon around a campfire. Plan to join us at Stephanie and
Doug's farm for a potluck dinner "to explore and enjoy" our universe's
beauty and to celebrate the winter solstice around the ancient tradition of
a campfire. Full details at Urban Outing, Dec 2010
<http://oklahoma.sierraclub.org/cimarron/pdfs/UrbanOutingNov2010.pdf> . If
the weather is questionable, I will cancel the outing.
* December 28 - Jan 3 (updated dates) - Backpack in Big Bend. Hike
the northern reaches of the Chihuahua Desert in Big Bend National Park.
Enjoy desert scenery few ever lay eyes on, with remote springs for campsites
and the enormous desert sky over your head at night. We will hike the
northern half of the Smokey Creek Trail, which is mainly just a dry
streambed through desert mountains. This trip is for experienced backpackers
who know their limitations and their equipment. Complete Big Bend Trip Info
