[OKC] Reworking fireplace to what gas, electric or wood burning

I'm planning to have some work  on my fireplace and was wondering what 
would be cleanest and sustaining fireplace options to go.  I may have to 
re-pipe gas line to the gas piped fireplace as the existing is not 
connected and so far unable to find proper connections without taking the 
fireplace masonry off at this time.  And the fireplace can be wood 
burning.  Wondering any suggestions.  Some say go electric, some say  just 
do the wood or run new gas lines.  Open to ideas.   Have had previous 
plans to re-surface over brick with stone or tile.
