[OKC] Five workshops in May

Five workshops are planned for the month of May by the Oklahoma City Office
of Sustainability.

 

1.      Thursday May 5th: Rainwater Harvesting 

Sam Minnick of Minnick Materials

http://www.minickmaterials.com/, a truly innovative company providing
landscaping materials and expertise. Minnick designed and installed the
water harvesting system at the Agricultural Resource Center (ARC) at
OSU/OKC, the location for this presentation. ARC, 400 N.Portland, OKC,  room
196 from 7-8:30 p.m.

 

2.      Tuesday May 10: Knowing the Basics of Green Roofs

Reid Coffman, ASLA, assistant professor at OU,
(http://la.coa.ou.edu/facultyrc.php.). Reid is a member of Greening Rooftops
for Healthy Cities and designed the green roof for the National Weather
Service building in Norman
(http://www.greenroofs.com/projects/pview.php?id=1103). ARC, 400 N.
Portland, OKC, room 193 from 7-8:30 p.m.

 

3&4. Tuesday May 17: Establishing a Native Grass Lawn 

Dennis Martin, PhD, Professor & Turfgrass Extension/Research Specialist at
OSU (http://www.hortla.okstate.edu/faculty/martin/index.htm). Dennis will be
demonstrating how to create an energy and resource saving (and beautiful!)
lawn with buffalo grass. Two hands-on workshops: 2:30-4:30 p.m., and 6-8
p.m., on the Shartel median between NW 30th and 31st. 

 

5.    Saturday May 21: Establishing an Oklahoma garden 

Elia Woods. Elia has extensive experience in starting, growing and
maintaining gardens at the Central Park Community Garden and as manager at
Guilford Gardens (http://www.kamskookery.com/gfarms.htm). This hands-on
workshop will be held at a private residence in the Hope Crossing
neighborhood, exact time and place to be announced.

 

All workshops are free, paid for by ARRA funds provided through the Oklahoma
City Office of Sustainability. Due to space limitations, please enroll in
workshops by emailing okcsites at gmail.com.

sponsored by a variety of organizations:
