* January 9 5:30 PM Outings Meeting - Come meet Outing Leaders and
learn what adventures are being planned for you to enjoy in 2011. You will
also learn about a Sierra Club sponsored children's summer camp held in
Stillwater, OK that allows them to experience and learn about the outdoors.
Also new changes in the Sierra Club Outings Waiver and Outings Membership
Form. Bring a dish for the pot luck dinner and your favorite drink.
Location - Home of Mark Aldridge: 11500 Forrest Spring Dr., OKC 535-9881.
Mark will demonstrate Dutch oven cooking beginning about 3:30 if anyone
wants to participate or observe. Also, pineapple upside down cake will be
demonstrated in Dutch Oven at 5:30. Contact Adrianne Holmes
adrianneholmes at sbcglobal.net Directions: Exit 111 off I-44 (SW 119) proceed
3.5 miles west just past Fosters Nursery, turn north on signed gravel road
and proceed to the end of the road. If you get to Council road you have gone
too far west. Those coming from El Reno may prefer to come south on Council
from I-40 and then turn east on SW 119. Forrest Spring Dr does not appear on
all GPS databases. Car-pooling from Edmond area is available.

*	January 10 - Book Club - BOOK GROUP IS CHANGING!! We are becoming a
"Re-Skilling" Group (a term from Rob Hopkins Transition Handbook). Here is
the basic idea: What if, instead of meeting monthly in the evening and
sharing what we have read and learned, we met at monthly or bimonthly
intervals at varying times and places to DO THINGS!

*	Ideas that were brainstormed recently were:

*	canning classes
*	gardening mobs (see http://fieldtoforknetwork.org/blog/tag/crop-mob/
or http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123709680999938 for examples)
*	tours of local sustainable farms and gardens
*	volunteering at Urban Harvest (the Regional Food Bank's garden) with
the ulterior motive of learning

*	So what we need from each of you is 1) IDEAS! and 2) HELP! putting
those ideas into practice for the group. As the apprentice who has tried to
follow in Carole Straughn's footsteps, I find that I have too many interests
to be the sole organizer of this group. If we are to continue in any form,
we need a community of organizers who can suggest an idea for the group then
put the idea into practice. We will meet at our usual place, Full Circle
Books at 7 pm on Monday, January 10, 2011 to finish up our review of A
Nation of Farmers. Another brainstorming/planning session regarding the
future of the Group will take place that evening. We probably also need to
come up with another name for the group since we will be about so much more
than books. Please join us with lots of ideas! We will skip the February
meeting (which would have occurred on Valentine's Day) unless someone has a
re-skilling idea for that month. If things go as planned, we will start our
new re-skilling gatherings in March. Please contact Diane Perkins
(daperkins at cox.net) or Astrud Ray (yes, the library will continue,
astrudray at aol.com) if further information is needed.

*	January 20, General Meeting - "Backyard Wildscaping" - Join us at
7:00 for wine and cheese and 7:30 for a program by Melynda Hickman, Wildlife
Diversity Biologist with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
Melynda will tell us how to make our backyard environments more friendly to
wildlife, birds and beneficial insects. Although many of us have fairly
modest back yards, there is still much we can do to create healthier,
"wilder" environments that allow other critters we share the planet with to
prosper along with us. We can attain the beauty we are seeking and, at the
same time, be kind to the environment. Melynda is a very experienced
biologist. You'll really enjoy her talk. Meeting Location
