Subject: Sierra Club E-News - Meeting this week + January & February Events
Note from the webmaster - The following thank you was inadvertently left out
of our Jan 1st e-news, sorry!
The Cimarron Group Executive Committee would like to thank our non member
corporate sponsors for their generous donations that helped make our annual
December fundraiser a great big success. Their generosity and support,
especially in these hard economic times, really made a difference in the
amount of money our group was able to raise. The funds raised through the
generosity of all our contributors will be used in the service of Sierra
Club's mission to explore, enjoy and protect the planet. We hope that you
will patronize these businesses and thank them personally. Backwoods, OKC
Kayak, Oklahoma City Riversport, Oklahoma River Cruises, Chesapeake Energy,
Land & Form and Turnkey Communications.

* January 20, General Meeting - "Backyard Wildscaping" - Join us at
7:00 for wine and cheese and 7:30 for a program by Melynda Hickman, Wildlife
Diversity Biologist with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
Melynda will tell us how to make our backyard environments more friendly to
wildlife, birds and beneficial insects. Although many of us have fairly
modest back yards, there is still much we can do to create healthier,
"wilder" environments that allow other critters we share the planet with to
prosper along with us. We can attain the beauty we are seeking and, at the
same time, be kind to the environment. Melynda is a very experienced
biologist. You'll really enjoy her talk. Meeting Location

* PlanOKC Update - Oklahoma City is developing a new comprehensive
plan, called planokc. It is a long-range plan with the goal of ensuring a
healthy environment, community, and economy for our residents. Planokc is
for the entire city-all 621 square miles. There are nine elements of
planokc. Learn more about each one by clicking on the element name on the
website (below), and feel free to contact the OKC Planning Dept. with any
questions or feedback. Planokc will guide the decisions that affect the
choices you will have in the future about places to live, work, learn, shop,
and play. One section-greenokc-identifies how development impacts our
environment and natural resources. The purpose of this element is to ensure
that we accommodate growth that maintains a healthy environment for the
benefit of future generations. When the plan is ready to be adopted, we
will needs hordes of sustainability proponents to help get it passed by the
City Council. Sign-up for updates from each element's group meetings (or to
participate in them) online: http://www.okc.gov/planokc. Please E-mail
sderichsaweiler at cox.net if you are interested in attending the City Council
meeting when the plan is considered for adoption.
