Subject: [PRailOK,KS,TX] IMPT!!!! State Rail Plan Meetings Scheduled...OKC,
Lawton, McAlester, Tulsa, Enid
This is the most important series of state passenger rail meetings to date.
Please cross state lines to attend these meetings. Show solidarity. Let me
know if you are attending so we can make this an organized effort/compare
notes. The state/city you help might be your own...
ODOT has scheduled meetings to discuss the future of state/regional
passenger and freight rail. It is VITAL that public interest be shown. The
meetings provide a good mix of ODOT officials and legislators. Your simple
presence at these meetings will make a difference. Ask the tough
questions:::
1) What is ODOT doing about the proposed passenger rail route through Kansas
to Kansas City?
2) Why is ODOT selling state shortline-rail assets, thus reducing the 869
miles of state owned railway?
3) Why did ODOT abandon the Amtrak Tulsa - Oklahoma City study when
preliminary costs for a modal-separated High Speed Rail are so high?
These meetings are being held to meet the BIG-3 High Speed Intercity
Passenger Rail (HSIPR) requirements for federal capital funding (State Rail
Plan, Environmental Study, Service Development Plan).

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is developing a new comprehensive
Freight and Passenger Rail Plan to guide the state’s planning efforts for
freight and passenger rail into one single coordinated effort. Issues of
economy, mobility, safety, environmental sustainability and current and
future needs of Oklahoma rail will be evaluated.
How can you participate?
Attend one of the open houses. Learn more about our state’s rail system, ask
questions of ODOT’s Rail Division staff and provide input.
