Engaging Local Government

Date: Tues, July 26, 2011
Time: 11:00am-12:00pm Pacific

“Transition 101 – The Emerging Transition Towns Movement in Minnesota” was
developed by a group of about a dozen Twin Cities’ members. On April 8,
2011, three Twin Cities’ members and one Transition US board member
presented “Transition 101” at an annual local government sustainability
conference. Several mayors expressed excitement in learning about Transition
Towns and how it might help their communities. The federal government is
attempting to engage at the local level and Karen Studders recently
participated in a sustainable communities conference.

CONCENSUS-ORIENTED DECISION MAKING

Date: Tues, August 9th, 2011
Time: 11:00am-12:00pm Pacific

A new model for facilitating group decision making is now available. The
seven steps of the CODM process offer groups a way to reap the benefits of a
participatory, collaborative process while maintaining clear and efficient
progress toward final decisions. This new model marries the dual goals of
generating widespread agreement and keeping meetings enjoyable and
productive. It offers Transition groups an innovative methodology for group
facilitation that can help the Transition Movement reach large numbers of
people without sacrificing the ability to make decisions effectively.
