*	March 5 - No commission outdoor gear swap meet.   In case you are
looking to turn extra gear into cash or are looking for some bargains this
is the event for you. This is for any outdoor related gear such as kayaks,
backpacks, tents, stoves, bicycles, fishing gear, etc, etc.  (No firearms or
ceramic yard geese allowed in the sale).  This will be held rain or shine on
Saturday, March 5th at OKC Kayak Paddlesport Superstore (220 N. Western Ave
in Oklahoma City).   Sellers bringing their items for us to sell need to
have these here no later than 5 p.m. on March 4th.  Unsold items must be
picked up no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8th.  Whatever you sell it
for is the price you get (i.e. we don't take a cut of the proceeds).  We do
all the advertising for the event, sell the items for you, and provide lunch
and other freebies.  For those folks looking for new to you gear, there is
no better place to find a bargain.  The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
March 5th only, so do arrive early to find the best bargains.  Feel free to

*	March 5 & 6 - Wilderness First Aid Training weekend (Red Cross).  To
be held at the Univ. of Central Oklahoma Center for Outdoor Adventure

*	March 7 & 9 - Beginner's Backpacking Workshop, held Monday and
Wednesday night from 6:00-9:30 at Backwoods at N May & NW122nd.  -
Experienced Sierra Club backpackers and instructors will teach on a variety
of topics. Your two nights of instruction will include: gear overview, how
to choose the right clothes, packs, tents and sleeping bags, how to prepare
for the trip, travel on the trail, prepare for possible trouble, backcountry
food & cooking, backcountry hygiene, managing the camp.  $25 cost includes a

*	March 17- General Meeting, Cimarron Camps, Cubs, and More - Join us
for a St. Patrick's Day "green" celebration and learn about Cimarron Group
programs for kids and other great Cimarron Group projects and activities.

*	March 26 & 27 - Beginner's Backpack to Horsethief Springs (SE
Oklahoma). Horsethief Springs Trail is one of the most beautiful trails in
OK. The trail begins at Cedar Lake and loops through many different tree
species -- loblolly pine, sweet gum, dogwood, and many others. The full
trail loop is 10+ miles and has an elevation gain and loss of 1050 feet.
However, we will "cheat" a little and cut off most of the 5 miles of climb
by beginning the hike off Talimina Drive on the Ouachita National Recreation
Trail for 1.2 miles before we connect on the second half of the Horsethief
Springs loop. So, we will hike a total of only about 6 miles down the
northern face of Winding Stair Mountain to Cedar Lake, with a 200 foot
elevation gain and about a 1050 foot elevation loss during the hike.

*	March 26 - Cimarron Book Group Morphs into re-skilling group. Sierra
Re-Skilling Group *Book Group is now a Re-Skilling Group. We are forming a
Task Force to help me put this group together with some kind of reasonable
plan. If you are interested in being on the planning committee for the
Re-Skilling Group, please contact Diane Perkins at
<mailto:daperkins at cox.net> daperkins at cox.net *Our first Re-Skilling Class is
a canning class scheduled for 3/26/11. This class is full. If you signed up
and did not receive confirmation or denial that you are on the student
roster for this class, please contact Diane (address above). *Our second
Re-Skilling Class will be a fruit tree pruning class to be held Sat, 5/21.
Details and sign-up to follow.  *The next class on the agenda at this
writing is a solar oven making and hay-box cooking class to be held in late
June. Date, details and sign-up to follow.  *Were you lucky enough to learn
some skills that we might all find valuable as we power-down? Are you
willing to share them with a group? I see my role as a facilitator to help

your class. I am thinking that all previous instructors should earn tuition
scholarships to subsequent Re-Skilling classes (but will need to run this by
the Task Force first!)

*	April 21- General Meeting.  What better way to spend Earth Day eve
than with the Sierra Club? Our speaker is Randy Marks, who is certified in
permaculture design and has a masters in sustainable land design and
planning.  Randy will discuss elements of the design process, perennial
polyculture gardens (food forests), and his experience with 'permablitz,'
inspiring people to work together to transform ordinary lawns into beautiful
and productive landscapes. Join us at 7:00 for wine and cheese and 7:30 for
the special program.

*	April 23 - Hug a Tree for Earth Day - The group will be handing out
native Oklahoma Trees (suggested $5 donation per tree) at the farmer's
market on the OSU-OKC campus.
*	April 23 - 6th Annual Lake Overholser/Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge
Clean-up! We will gather around 8:30 on Saturday morning, April 23rd at the
Overholser Pavilion which is located around NW 14th and East Overholser
Drive in Oklahoma City.  Volunteers will be divided into groups to clean up
different parts of these areas.  We need most of the volunteers to help pick
up trash on land, but will also need people to collect trash in the water
around the shorelines.  To help with that, OKC Kayak is donating the use of
their watercraft.  We will clean up until 12:30 when we meet back at the
Pavilion for a free lunch provided by Earl's Rib Palace.  Volunteers will
need to wear long pants, sturdy shoes, insect repellant, sunscreen, and
sturdy gloves.

*	OLT Weekend April 30th & May 1st - The national Sierra Club's
training team will be flying in to Oklahoma to host an Outdoor Leader
Training Weekend for our region.  If you've ever wanted to get certified to
lead Sierra Club outings or you've been a leader in the past and want to
re-certify, this weekend is for you!  Details are still being ironed out but

held at Camp Harbin, the group camp located adjacent to Arrowhead State Park
