[OKC] Reminder! Lake Overholser/Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge Clean-Up 4/23

 Earth Day will soon be here so I just wanted to remind you about the 6th Annual Lake Overholser/ Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge Clean-Up which will be held on Saturday, April 23 from 8:30am - 1:30pm.  We are meeting at the Overholser Pavilion which is around NW 14th and East Overholser Drive.  It is recommended that volunteers wear long pants, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, sturdy work gloves, and sturdy shoes/boots that you don't mind getting muddy,
 
We will need a lot of people to help clean up these wonderful areas so please let all your friends know about this event!  
 
For those who prefer to clean up the lake and waterways from canoe or kayak, OKC Kayak will be providing watercraft at no charge for this clean-up.  However, you will need to contact Rodney Boegel (802-3678 or rodneyboegel at att.net) who is coordinating the flotilla.
 
I also need some specific volunteers.  Please contact me if you can help with any of the following:
 
*        Contact businesses to request items to be given away for the raffle
*        Team Leaders 
*        Rovers - Requires a pick-up truck
*        A good photographer who is willing to travel between the different teams and take lots of digital photos of the event.
*        An outgoing person who would be willing to staff the registration table and help latecomers locate their clean-up areas.  This person would also help with setting up lunch.
*        Sort recyclables - this is a good volunteer position for somebody who may not be physically able to do a lot of walking around and picking up trash. 
As in previous years, there will be a free lunch provided by Earl's Rib Palace and burgers from the Cimarron Steakhouse.  Bottles of water and beverages from Pepsi will be available.  During lunch, there will be a raffle of some really great prizes.  If you would like to donate something for the raffle, please contact me.
 
This is a great scout activity for those of you who are Scout leaders.  The clean-up is a qualifying activity for the Girl Scout's Water Drop Patch Project [http://www.epa.gov/adopt/patch/html/ <http://www.epa.gov/adopt/patch/html/> ].  This clean-up is also a great activity for environmental and other school groups. This clean-up is part of the Great American Clean-Up (sponsored by Keep Oklahoma Beautiful), Litter Blitz (sponsored by the City of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma City Beautiful), the Oklahoma Trash-Off (sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for clean-up along part of historic Route 66) and the National River Clean-Up (sponsored by American Rivers for clean-up along the North Canadian River in Stinchcomb and south of Lake Overholser).

Everybody who participates will also need to sign the attached liability waiver.  Save time by printing this off double-sided beforehand and bring it with you.  Volunteers under the age of 18 will need the signature of a parent or legal guardian.
