Earth911's Megan Dobransky wites that "organic waste - your food scraps, yard trimmings, paper products and other compostable items- made up more than two-thirds of the U.S. municipal solid waste stream in 2009. About 33 million tons of food scraps are thrown away each year."
Earth911 has provided a number of articles and tools, as well as a link to events taking place during Compost Awareness Week, which ends on May 7.
