Subject: December 1st workshop:Living "Off the Grid" for 34 years

An Oklahoma City couple, Barbara Hagen and Bruce Johnson, have lived "off
the grid," using only solar and wind power, for 34 years. They will detail
their story and the importance of energy efficiency while exploring the
day-to-day activities of their low-impact lifestyle.

The couple uses renewable energy in their northeast Oklahoma City home for
space heating, hot water heating, water pumping, and to power ovens and food
dehydrators.

"Bruce and Barbara's home is full of innovative and creative adaptations to
off-the-grid living," said Jennifer Gooden, Director of the City of Oklahoma
City's Office of Sustainability. "Sustainability is not just a buzz word for
them - it's a way of life."

Low-impact living is a lifestyle in which individuals attempt to minimize
the use of the earth's natural resources and their own resources.
"Energy efficiency and conservation are the most important aspects of the
low-impact lifestyle," said Johnson, who will use a photographic slide
projector during the presentation. THE DATE IS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1ST, 7:00
PM TO 8:30 PM. LOCATION: ROOM 240, AGRICULTURAL RESOURCE CENTER (ARC),
OSU-OKC, 400 N. PORTLAND. Contact email is OKCSites at gmail.com or
405.834.2240.

The free workshop is sponsored by the City of Oklahoma City's Department of
Sustainability, the USGBC and OSU-OKC School of Engineering Technology.
Funding was made available through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Block Grant.
