Hello SustainableOKC and Friends!
The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is on Sunday, April 29th, and this
important event needs you to help make it a success! In recent years the
organizers of the event have been working to make it more environmentally
friendly and there is a significant need for volunteers to help with
recycling. SOKC has agreed to the very attainable goal of recruiting 10
volunteers to help with the recycling effort. We already have 4 people
signed up, so we need at least 6 more good Samaritans to help ensure this
very good cause doesn’t leave the city littered with recyclables when it’s
over! There are two shifts you can choose between: 5:30 to 9:30 a.m. or
9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will be easy, fun, and a great way to get
involved in the marathon if you don’t feel like running a quick 26 miles.
If you’d like to participate, please respond ASAP to Amanda Ewing at
amanda.richelle at gmail.com and provide the following information:
Name
Which shift you want to help with
Email address
Cell phone number for race day coordination
T-shirt size for a snazzy volunteer t-shirt (it just keeps getting better,
doesn’t it?!)
Let’s ensure SOKC has a significant presence in this important community
event. Contact me with any questions and I hope to hear from you soon!
Amanda
*Top Seven Reasons To Volunteer for Memorial Marathon Recycling*
7. You have a great way to respond to those who ask if you’re running in
the marathon (“No, I would but I am handling the recycling work for the
event”)
6. That guilt you felt last week when you forgot to recycle the beverage
containers in your house- it will vanish in the first 30 minutes when you
help recycle about a thousand containers from the marathon.
5. It’s a fun way to be a part of one of the coolest and largest and most
energizing community events in the area.
4. If you work the early shift, you can see the sun come up.
3. If you work the second shift, you don’t have to see the sun come up.
2. You will get a free awesome T-shirt.
1. When else do you get to wear a fluorescent lime green safety vest?
