SOKC and the City of Oklahoma City are hosting a booth at the Paseo Arts
Festival (May 26-28, 2012) designed to teach kids about re-purposing and
re-using old, broken or otherwise discarded household items. Volunteers
will help kids take "trash" and turn it into useful or decorative crafts.
We are in need of "stuff" (aka trash) to make the crafts and volunteers to
help kids put them together.
Below is a list of items needed and their intended uses:
1. Old gardening, photography, art and architecture magazines, Or any
magazines with colorful, (child appropriate) images, as they’ll be cut into
strips to make woven art.
2. Empty oatmeal containers (the round ones) to make into birdhouses
3. Flat refrigerator magnets (often with business logos) that can be cut
into smaller magnets (anyone with a business connection who may have some
outdated or extra ones, I’d be very appreciative for contact info)
4. Foam plates (meats, pre-made sushi, sandwiches, etc. are often packaged
in these at the grocery store) to use as mosaic bases.
5. Bric-a-Brac: broken jewelry, beads, buttons, old party favors, trinkets,
toy pieces, small decorative items… etc. to decorate the many projects
we’ll be making. We need lots of these!
6. Clothespins (the kind with the spring) to make into refrigerator magnets
for displaying art, homework, etc.
7. Old crayons (broken are great, too) to make into light catchers.
*We would also gratefully accept donations of non-toxic glues, ribbon,
double-stick tape, mod podge and wax paper.
It’s for a good cause and a great way to get rid of some of the little
stuff that clutters drawers, jewelry boxes and the bottoms of toy boxes.
Thank you so much!!! Have I mentioned this is for KIDS? Cute little kids…
