*      Sidewalk Survey for You

This week the MAPS 3 Subcommittee on Trails and Sidewalks needs your opinion
on how to best allocate the $10 million that citizens voted to spend on new
sidewalks. The Neighborhood Alliance, NACOK, put "bus stops" on the list of
8 or so choices! There are, of course, many priorities that need sidewalks.
Please take the very short survey at the link, and it takes only 1-2
minutes. Please note that MAPS 3 sidewalk funds are to be spent along
arterial streets:

* "Six Stops to Success" March 27 at Oklahoma City Community
College

If the higher price of gasoline is making you feel lower, come to this at
the College! The Oklahoma Alliance for Public Transportation (APT) will host
you again at a 2 pm session on improving transit. Hear from national experts
for free on the best strategies for building a winning campaign plan that
will keep the idea of better local transit moving forward. Afterward,
participate in a local discussion about early steps that APT could take.
Soft beverages and snacks are sponsored by APT.

The APT invites you to join us on Tuesday, March 27 (2:00 pm) at the
Community College at 74th and S. May. The nationwide live presentation and
discussion is "Calming the Critics: Transit Myths and Facts." This 90 minute
live national webinar presents a great perspective and will help answer
those challenging questions. Afterward, please stay and learn about case
studies from elsewhere on how to find funds for better transit even in
austere times. The series will provide advocates and transportation
organizations with some necessary tools to promote better transit and make a
future ballot measure a "success."

* APT Luncheon at Community Foundation April 11

Come meet at noon on Wednesday April 11 with other rail transit, paratransit
and bus supporters at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF) at a
lunch hosted by the Oklahoma Alliance for Public Transportation (APT). A
speaker has been secured to give an audiovisual presentation about a local
survey and another will speak on the outlook on the costs of transit on
taxpayers. The survey was taken of hundreds of local citizens about transit
and what these citizens desire. Another statistically valid survey was done
to understand what the current bus riders are like and what their desires
are. The budget impact talk by an Oklahoma City official is separate from
the survey talk.

Free tips: did you know that the City of Oklahoma City budgets about $20 per
resident for transit from its General Fund (GF)? The average in the only
three suburbs who do care to fund transit from their GF is just over $4.00
per capita. Also, you can ride METRO Transit buses FREE on Friday April 20.
Of course, the April 11 meeting is free and there is free ample parking in
the lot along NW 10th just east of the Community Foundation.

The presentation starts at 12:05, and the meeting will adjourn by 1:00 pm.

Urge a friend to attend!
