Dear APT Membership,
--Six Stops to Success" Resumes March 27
--April 11 APT Annual Meeting: Mark Your Calendar
* "Six Stops to Success" Resumes March 27 at OKC Community College
The Oklahoma Alliance for Public Transportation (APT) invites you to come to
an interesting webinar at 2pm on March 27 when the presentation and
discussion is "Fighting the Critics: Transit Myths & Facts." This 90 minute
webinar will discuss some of the most common attacks against recent transit
investment, against specific modal decisions, and typical misinformation
about future operating costs. It will provide counterarguments and facts
necessary to combat the critics. The national Center for Transportation
Excellence (CFTE) presents this nationwide webinar series and it provides
advocates and pro-transportation groups with some necessary tools to convert
a transportation idea into a doable project.
To learn more about moving transit forward, come on the 27th and hear from
national experts for free on the best strategies for building a winning
plan. Afterward, some plan to stay to have a local discussion about how this
relates to metro Oklahoma City and to the APT.
The APT invites you to join them on Tuesday, March 27, 2 p.m. at Room CU-2
in the College Union of the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) at 74th
and South May. You should park in "Lot D" and enter through the College
Union entry, CU 1. The College Union entrance is on the north side of the
Main Building. Your best bet to access easy parking in "Lot D" is to drive
in at the SW 74th Street entrance on the north side of the campus and look
for signage. OCCC is also along Route 12 and near Route 13.
On April 10 at 2pm a session will be held on "Getting Supporters to Form a
Team," and it will also be at the College in Room CU-2.
* April 11 APT Annual Meeting and Noon Presentation
Mark your calendar to be at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF)
for the Annual APT Meeting, followed by a noon General Meeting Program. The
11:30 Annual Meeting chaired by Lauren Branch will feature the APT Board
Election, discussion of APT business and a transit "summit," and a listening
session with the members. This email serves as notice, and please contact
the APT for an agenda.
The General Meeting at noon, however, has a program presentation that starts
at 12:10, and the meeting will adjourn by 1:00 pm. A speaker has been
secured to give a sharp audiovisual presentation about results of a local
survey, and another will speak on the outlook on the costs of transit on
taxpayers and how that relates to City budgeting. The survey was taken of
hundreds of local citizens about transit and what these citizens desire.
Another part of the statistically valid survey was done to understand what
the current bus riders are like and what their desires are. The budget
impact talk by an Oklahoma City official is separate from the survey
presentation.
Free tips: did you know that the City of Oklahoma City annually budgets
about $20 per resident from its General Fund (GF) to operate transit? The
average in those three suburbs who do actually fund transit from their GF is
just over $4.00 per resident. Did you know you can try METRO Transit's buses
FREE on Friday April 20 as part of Earth Month? And, of course, your April
11 APT meeting is free and there is free ample parking in the lot along NW
10th just east of the Community Foundation. And as you may know, the
Oklahoma APT is a 501c3 organization.
Urge a friend to attend the A{T meeting at the Oklahoma City Community
Foundation (OCCF), 1000 N. Broadway Ave. Oklahoma City, OK. The location is
also Route 2 and is near Routes 4 and 3.
