<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>The group met at 8:00 p.m. and started with a brief round of introductions and an overview of Sustainable OKC by Jennifer G. and Laura B.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>After that the group jumped into discussions of the upcoming panel discussion.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3> </FONT></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman"><B>Panel Discussion</B> – The purpose of the panel discussion, coinciding with our mission statement, is to create awareness and educate not only Sustainable OKC members but also the interested public about various types of sustainable development and opportunities that exist in the OKC area.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The panel discussion is taking place on October 20<SUP>th</SUP> in the basement of the Chapel at OCU.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Current speakers on the panel include Hans Butzer(architect), Russell Claus(City Planner), and Kelly Parker(Consultant).<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The group discussed who the additional speakers could be and what the focus of the discussion will be.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The focus will most likely involve one or two areas currently under development in the <?xml:namespace prefix
= st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Oklahoma City</st1:place></st1:City> area and will include discussion on what the sustainable development opportunities are for those areas.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Discussion could include topics such as brownfields, transportation, pedestrian activity, green space, energy efficiency, and others.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>If you have comments or suggestions about panel speakers or topics please email Laura at </FONT></FONT><A href="mailto:sustainableokc@yahoo.com"><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>sustainableokc@yahoo.com</FONT></A><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>. </FONT></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman"><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on"><B>Smart</B></st1:PlaceName><B> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">City</st1:PlaceType></B></st1:place><B> Initiatives</B> – The other topic discussed by the group was smart city initiatives.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Several people gave examples such as <st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City>’s urban heat and green roofs, <st1:City w:st="on">Austin</st1:City>’s building codes, and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Philadelphia</st1:City></st1:place>’s water runoff program.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The group had a lively debate about what options might exist in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Oklahoma City</st1:place></st1:City> and various members of the group are going to do further research on what other cities are doing and what initiatives we might be able to focus on in the next five-thirty years in
