Oklahoma City residents concerned about the catastrophic effects of global
warming will join together to urge Congress to cut carbon emissions 80% by
2050. The event is part of the Step it Up campaign, the largest day of citizen
action focusing on global warming in our nation’s history. </span></font></span><o:p></o:p></p>

preparing garden beds and planting at 10 am until 4pm with neighborhood
volunteers, students from the two Harding Charter schools, Starbucks employees,
members of Spring Creek Baptist Church and OU students participating in their
annual "Big Event" volunteer day. Speakers will include Sen.
Andrew Rice, Rep. Al McAffrey, Councilman Sam Bowman, Tom Elmore of North
American Transportation Institute, Robert Waldrop from Oklahoma Food Coop,
Jennifer Gooden, Past President, Sustainable OKC and other community
leaders. Emcee of the event will be Timothy Trujillo, President of the
Central Park Neighborhood Association. There will be workshops led by
local environmentalists and free seedlings will be available to all
attendees. Music will be provided by local groups featuring The
Electric Primadonnas, Mary Reynolds, Peggy Johnson and students from both
Harding Charter Schools.</span></font></span><o:p></o:p></p>

Association is attempting to make the Shartel medians more pedestrian, bicycle
and ecologically friendly and inviting, turning the medians into a park with a
walking trail for the community and an outdoor classroom for the two Harding Charter
Schools. “We were successful in changing Shartel from a 4 car street to 2
car lanes and 2 bike lanes”, said Allen Parleir, event organizer and
officer of Central Park Neighborhood Association.</span></font></span><o:p></o:p></p>

campaign comprised of over 1,300 events in 50 states rallying around the need
for substantial and rapid action on the issue of global warming. The events are
being held in major cities, iconic locations and small towns across <st1:country-region
w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">America</st1:place></st1:country-region>.
Rallies have been organized by groups from all walks of life who agree on one
thing: the time has come for our elected officials to take bold and immediate
steps to combat global warming.</span></font></span><o:p></o:p></p>
