Hello from Urban Harvest

 Urban Harvest is an urban agriculture program of the Regional Food Bank
of Oklahoma. The Food Banks mission is help the charitable community
effectively feed people in need. Urban Harvest assists in this by
providing fresh produce to the agencies we serve through various means
to include growing produce at our facility, working with local farmers
in gleaning the produce they cannot sell and by assisting in
establishing and supporting community gardens in the OKC area. With one
employee dedicated to the program we depend heavily on volunteers of all
kinds to include a partnership with AMERICORP that provides us with
volunteers that are paid a stipend and other benefits to work for a year
with us. Currently we are in need of two individuals to fill slots that
are being vacated this month. The first slot is a gardening oriented
position that focuses on gardening/youth gardening and the other
position works with produce in the warehouse as well as assisting in our
crop gleaning efforts. The details concerning the benefits of serving
are as follows:

documented work within the year.

*       Health Insurance

* AmeriCorps Education award of $4,725.00 to put towards past
student loans or future education

* Working with an agency that is fighting hunger and feeding hope
in Oklahoma while picking up valuable work experience and resume
building.

* Possibility of further employment after the term is over.

The eligibility criteria is as follows:

* must be 17 years of age (however ideally the applicant will be
at least 25 in order to qualify to operate our vehicles)

* must serve on a full-time basis during the project period of
1,700 hrs over the year

* must be able to start before 31 October 2006

*       must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or a lawful permanent

We are going to lose the two slots if they are not filled by the 31st of
October. Anyone interested or that knows of someone that might be
interested in this program and working with us in helping our community
can contact Bruce Edwards at 405-972-1111 ext 108 or email at
