Go local with your holiday gift giving by donating to Sustainable OKC and our non-profit programs, Commonwealth Urban Farms, Buy Fresh Buy Local and Transition OKC!
A donation to Sustainable OKCis a gift that keeps on giving, by funding local sustainability projects and events that build innovative grassroots solutions. We are completely run by volunteers so your money goes directly to funding projects benefiting sustainability in Oklahoma City.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
Sustainable OKC has had a busy 2011! Our free listserv, Facebook, website, and Green Drinks happy hours continue to connect the sustainability community, while events and workshops sponsored by our programs are educating and raising awareness about solutions such as energy efficiency, local food, walkable communities and permaculture.
We appreciate donations of any size at our PayPal site to support our work as we head into 2012. Thank you for considering us in your holiday giving!
Transition OKC | 2011
In 2011, Transition OKC partnered with dozens of organizations across Oklahoma City to bring you workshops, trainings, networking events and more! We had a great time with all our events and are looking forward to a fun and productive 2012.
* Free film screenings of The Economics of Happinessand The Greenhorns
* Re-skilling workshops
* Oklahoma's first full-length Permaculture Design Course
* Co-sponsorship of Moving Planet OK, raising awareness of the connection between health and sustainability
* Local food networking events and a Local Food Chef's Challenge
Commonwealth Urban Farms | 2011
Commonwealth Urban Farms recently joined Sustainable OKC, and we are already preparing our gardens for spring!
Commonwealth's mission is to grow food on vacant lots throughout Oklahoma City, to provide training and resources for a network of urban gardeners, to create jobs that contribute to individual and community health, to expand retail outlets for locally grown food, to turn waste to compost, and to connect neighbors and neighborhoods so that our common waste and underutilized resources become our common wealth.
We offer CommonWork days every Saturday from 9 am - 11 a.m. as an opportunity for the community to get their hands dirty preparing and working our gardens. You are welcome to join us!
Buy Fresh Buy Local | 2011
Buy Fresh Buy Local helps restaurants, grocers, caterers, wineries, farmer's markets, and local food producers promote their Oklahoma-grown products.
Some of our 2011 activities:
* Released a 2011 Central Oklahoma Farmer's Market Guide highlighting OKC-area Farmer's Markets
* Distributed a free 2010-2011 Local Food Guide, a 12-page booklet directing consumers to local food in central Oklahoma
* Coming soon - look for our updated website, co-sponsored by Buy Fresh Buy Local, to find locally-grown food through a searchable online database
