Slow Food OKC and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, in association with the OK Fit Kids Coalition, Oklahoma Food Coop, Sustainable OKC, deadCENTER Film and OETA are proud to present a special screening of the critically acclaimed documentary, King Corn followed by a panel discussion led by community leaders and experts.

 

When:  Thursday February 28th at 7:30pm (film) followed by panel discussion.  

(The film will be shown again on Friday, February 29th at 5:30pm and 8pm - not panel discussion)

Cost:  Attendees affiliated with the above groups  $5/person (honor system).  Others $8 adults/ $6 seniors and students.  

 

About the Film King Corn:

 

King Corn is a critically acclaimed feature documentary about two friends, one acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives our fast-food nation.

 

In King Corn, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, best friends from college on the east coast, move to the heartland to learn where their food comes from.  With the help of friendly neighbors, genetically modified seeds, and powerful herbicides, they plant and grow a bumper crop of America 's most-productive, most-subsidized grain on one acre of Iowa soil.  But when they try to follow their pile of corn into the food system, what they find raises troubling questions about how we eat-and how we farm.

About our panelists:  We have assembled a fantastic group for our panel discussion on issues covered in the film - issues that impact everyone - sustainable agriculture, the impact of the farm subsidy program on the production of corn, the impact of low corn prices on obesity and general health, and much more.  Panelists will take questions from the audience and speak from their experience and areas of expertise.
